The Journey of Discovery….

 Through the lessons of investment, innovation, and giving, Stone and Wick was born as a reminder that there are treasures everywhere within.  Each candle that is bought and given to someone is a symbol of the hidden gems within them that are waiting to be discovered. 

Stone and Wick’s beginnings had a bit of a unique start. Landon, the 12 year old son of a local jeweler in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma took it upon himself to count the family’s change drawer that had been accumulating for several years.  When he totaled everything up, there was $168 in the drawer and he was rich!  Landon was in a family of 4 people, so he split up the total and  proclaimed that each person had $42!   He was excited to spend that on a game he had been wanting.

But Landon’s father had some information that changed his tune a little. That money didn’t belong to Landon just because he counted it. However, being the entrepreneur that Landon’s father was, he challenged Landon to come up with an idea that they could invest the money into and, if he did that, Landon could keep all the money. 

Landon wasn’t so sure about this course of action and definitely had a few reasons as to why he couldn’t do that being only 12 years old.  After some thought though, Landon came back with the idea of making candles to which Landon’s father questioned how he was going to make it special. He had to expound on the candle idea so that it was different than any of the other candles.   After some more protest and time spent in thought, Landon said “Let’s put gemstones in our candles, maybe even diamonds!”    

Brilliant!  They made candles in their kitchen soon after and started to sell them in the family’s jewelry store.  Landon’s father wanted to continue the lesson though, so he told Landon that he needed to take some of the proceeds of each candle sold and donate them to a charity of his choice.  Landon researched and chose a charity that helps provide therapeutic and specialized education to children that are differently abled.  After selling candles for 5 weeks, Landon was able to write his first check for $1000 to the charity!    

Landon is now a full-time dad of four but still has a burning passion for candles and the warmth and joy they bring to the people that buy them.
